Anesthesiologist, Nurse Anesthetist (Zambia)

Macha Mission Hospital serves communities in rural southeastern Zambia each year and includes a 208-bed inpatient facility, outpatient clinic, nursing school, comprehensive community health care programs, and a robust chaplaincy program. 

Role Overview

The Anesthesiologist or Nurse Anesthetist will support two very busy operating rooms, supported with nurses and technicians trained in basic anesthetic care. They will be responsible for administering anesthesia to patients before, during, and after surgical procedures, including evaluating their medical history, monitoring vital signs throughout surgery, managing potential complications, and providing post-operative pain management. They will adhere to international best practices and local healthcare standards within the Zambian medical system.

Key Competencies

  • Medical Degree: Hold recognized medical degree (MD/DO) from a U.S. or internationally accredited medical school or CRNA. Must have completed a specialized residency training program in Anesthesiology.
  • Clinical Skills: Be proficient in administering various types of anesthesia, airway management, managing critical situations, and monitoring patient vital signs.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Interact effectively with patients, families, and other healthcare team members. Communicate well with the staff and surgical team, maintain confidentiality, remain open to others’ ideas, and exhibit willingness to try new things.

Bible Teacher – Zambia

Sikalongo Bible Institute (SBI) provides training for Zambian Brethren in Christ pastors. A significant percentage of pastors currently serving in BIC Zambia received their initial training at SBI. 

Role Overview

The Bible Teacher would be responsible for delivering comprehensive Biblical instruction to pastoral students, focusing on theological understanding, practical application to daily life, and fostering spiritual growth.

Key Competencies

  • Degree in Biblical Studies or Theology – A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Biblical Studies, Theology, or related field. A deep understanding of biblical text, Christian doctrines.
  • Pastoral & Teaching Experience: Prior experience in ministry or pastoral work. Proven experience in teaching Bible studies or related courses, preferably within a Christian educational setting. Able to inspire and mentor students, foster a positive learning environment and promote spiritual growth.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Excellent communication skills to interact effectively with students, families, SBI staff, and administrative team.
  • Cross Cultural Awareness: Desire to learn and teach in Chi-Tonga (local language). Sensitivity to Zambian culture and the ability to adapt teaching methods to effectively reach diverse learners. Will work to develop the ability to interpret scripture accurately within a Zambian context.

Service

This person will serve under the leadership of the Zambian BIC Church, SBI administration, and BIC U.S. World Missions as their sending agency. Ideally this person will complete our Missionary Development Program prior to deployment and serve terms of 1-3 years.

Church Planter – Colombia

The Tierra Linda BIC Congregation in Bogotá, Colombia, is passionate about reaching more people with the Gospel. The congregation meets in a neighborhood impacted by violence, and they actively seek creative opportunities to serve people experiencing stress and emotional strain. 

Role Overview

The Colombia Church Planter will support the Tierra Linda BIC through evangelism, leadership training, and discipleship. The person(s) would collaborate with Tierra Linda to plant a church in a new neighborhood.

Key Competencies

  • A heart for cross-cultural missions specifically for Latin American communities.
  • Fluency in Spanish or actively working toward fluency. Interested parties without Spanish fluency should be prepared for 6-12 months of full-time language study prior to the start of ministry at Tierra Linda.

Service

This person(s) will serve under the leadership of the Colombian BIC Church, Tierra Linda leadership, and BIC U.S. World Missions as their sending agency. They may be expected to complete the Missionary Development Program.

Hospitality Coordinator – Zambia

Macha Mission Hospital serves communities in rural southeastern Zambia each year and includes a 208-bed inpatient facility, outpatient clinic, nursing school, comprehensive community health care programs, and a robust chaplaincy program.

Role Overview

The Hospitality Coordinator is responsible for coordinating hospitality to support teams and individuals visiting Macha Hospital. This includes helping to manage the hospital guesthouse and restaurant and coordinating travel, visas, and schedules for guesthouse visitors. The goal is to ensure high standards of customer service and deliver a positive guest experience.

Key Competencies

  • Strong organizational abilities and problem-solving skills. They must build a strong rapport with guests, staff, and vendors and be committed to providing an exceptional guest experience.
  • Previous experience in a hospitality role is preferable.
  • Knowledge of and willingness to learn local hospitality practice and cultural nuances.
  • Fluency in English, ability to speak Chi-Tonga is preferable.

Kingdom Professional – Dearborn, Michigan

Dearborn, Michigan, is home to the largest population of Muslims per capita within the U.S. This presents a great cross-cultural ministry opportunity in our own backyard. 

Role Overview

As the name may imply, a Kingdom Professional serves as a business professional in Dearborn intentionally developing relationships with Muslims. This individual will present the truths of who Jesus is in appropriate ways, inviting people to know him.

Key Competencies

  • Finding employment in Dearborn
  • Actively learning about various Middle Eastern cultures and pursue formal Arabic language training. 
  • Initiate and build relationships with Muslim neighbors and learn to effectively communicate the Gospel in culturally applicable ways. 
  • Partner with existing ministry in Dearborn and will partner with BIC U.S. World Missions for training and support.

Service

This person will serve under the leadership of the bishop of the Great Lakes Regional Conference and BIC U.S. World Missions as their sending agency. They may be expected to complete the Missionary Development Program.

OB/GYN – Zambia

Macha Mission Hospital serves communities in rural southeastern Zambia each year and includes a 208-bed inpatient facility, outpatient clinic, nursing school, comprehensive community health care programs, and a robust chaplaincy program. 

Role Overview

This Obstetrics and Gynecology (OB-GYN) Doctor position provides comprehensive healthcare to women throughout their reproductive lifespan. This includes prenatal care, labor and delivery support, postpartum care, and gynecological examinations. She/he will collaborate closely with hospital staff to ensure quality patient care within the context of the Zambian healthcare system and local regulations.

Key Competencies

  • Completion of a recognized medical degree and an OB-GYN residency program
  • License to practice medicine in Zambia
  • Strong clinical skills in diagnosis, treatment, and surgical interventions related to obstetrics and gynecology
  • Knowledge of local healthcare policies and procedures related to maternal and reproductive health in Zambia

Pediatric Doctor – Zambia

Macha Mission Hospital serves communities in rural southeastern Zambia each year and includes a 208-bed inpatient facility, outpatient clinic, nursing school, comprehensive community health care programs, and a robust chaplaincy program.

Role Overview

This Pediatric Doctor position provides comprehensive healthcare to infants, children and adolescents. This will include assessing health conditions, managing acute and chronic conditions, monitoring child development, educating families on child health practices, and collaborating with healthcare teams. The Specialist will work within the limitations of the Zambian healthcare system all while prioritizing the child’s well-being and adapting to the unique challenges of a developing country environment.

Key Competencies

  • Medical degree recognized in Zambia, pediatric residency experience or relevant training, strong clinical skills in pediatric diagnosis and management
  • Excellent communication skills to interact effectively with patients, families, and other healthcare team members.

Project Coordinator & Maintenance Assistant – Zambia

Macha Mission Hospital serves communities in rural southeastern Zambia each year and includes a 208-bed inpatient facility, outpatient clinic, nursing school, comprehensive community health care programs, and a robust chaplaincy program. 

Role Overview

The Project Coordinator and Maintenance Assistant at Macha Hospital involves two roles:

The Project Coordinator plays a critical role in the successful planning, implementation, and monitoring of various hospital projects. She/he coordinates activities between various stakeholders, including healthcare professionals, community health workers, local government agencies (particularly the Ministry of Health), and community organizations. The Project Coordinator ensures that project activities align with program goals, are completed on time, within budget, and meet quality standards.

The Maintenance Assistant assists the maintenance team performing routine repairs and preventative maintenance on the hospital building and its equipment (including electrical systems, plumbing, medical devices, and general building infrastructure) and ensures the facility remains safe and functional for patients and staff while adhering to local health and safety regulations. Key responsibilities may include inspecting equipment, completing work orders, coordinating with outside contractors when needed, and maintaining proper documentation of maintenance activities.

Key Competencies

  • Project Management Skills: Excellent organizational and leadership skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines. Experience using project management software a plus.
  • Team Player: Ability to follow instructions and respond to leadership direction, while also working independently in a challenging environment.
  • Technical Skills: Basic understanding of electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and general maintenance. Familiarity with common medical devices and their maintenance needs.
  • Problem-solving: Ability to diagnose issues and identify solutions effectively.
  • Communication Skills: Effective communication with hospital staff to understand maintenance needs and report progress.
  • Physical Fitness: Capability to perform tasks requiring lifting, climbing, and bending.

Teachers – Bogotá, Colombia

El Camino Academy provides a Christ-centered, pre-Kindergarten to high school education for local and international families living in Bogotá. The program is dedicated to equipping bilingual servant leaders to transform their world as they follow Jesus. 

Role Overview

This person(s) feels called by God to Colombia and to use their skills as a trained and certified teacher at a Christian school. They will have major responsibility of instruction in the curriculum area.

  • Trained and certified teacher
  • Team interaction: the individual is willing to work together with a team

Service

This person will serve under the leadership of El Camino Academy and, indirectly, under the BIC U.S. World Missions’ Regional Administrator overseeing Colombia. See El Camino Academy for more details.

Team Members – Malawi

Brethren in Christ missionaries have worked among the Yawo people of Malawi for more than twenty years, and a growing number of Yawo are coming to faith. In more than thirty village Bible study groups, the ministry team disciples young believers and helps seekers learn about Jesus.

Role Overview

This additional team member(s) will join the existing Yawo ministry team which includes members from BIC U.S. and BIC Malawi. The new team member(s) will study the language and be involved with teaching and discipleship among Bible Study groups. The team member(s) will integrate in healthy ways with the team already in place in the country.

Key Competencies

  • Problem solving: the individual identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner and gathers and analyzes information skillfully
  • Team interaction: the individual is willing to work together with a team
  • Oral communication: the individual speaks clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations, demonstrates group presentation skills, and conducts meetings
  • Written communication: the individual edits work for spelling and grammar, presents numerical data effectively, and is able to read and interpret written information (for writing team blogs, newsletters, etc.)

Service

This person will serve under the leadership of the Malawi BIC Church and BIC U.S. World Missions as their sending agency. They may be expected to complete the Missionary Development Program.

Team Members – Thailand

Thailand’s Christian community makes up less than 1% of the population. In this predominantly Buddhist country, people who come to faith often suffer family and social opposition – even persecution. Yet, God is working among the people in the Isaan region where the BIC U.S. World Missions team is working with, and planting, house churches to build up communities of Christ followers.

Role Overview

This additional team member(s) would start a new outreach to university students in conjunction with the current work among house churches in the area, as well as engage in evangelism along with the existing team members in Thailand. Team member(s) will focus on ministry among university students. They will study the language and be involved with discipleship upon completion of the language study. They will teach English and integrate in healthy ways with the team that is already in place in the country.

Key Competencies

  • Problem solving: the individual identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner and gathers and analyzes information skillfully
  • Written communication: the individual edits work for spelling and grammar, presents numerical data effectively, and is able to read and interpret written information (for writing team blogs)
  • Self-Starter: initiates connections and builds relationships with students
  • Safety and security: the individual actively promotes and personally observes safety and security procedures outlined by team leaders in the country

Service

This person will serve under the leadership of Thai church leaders and BIC U.S. World Missions as their sending agency. They may be expected to complete the Missionary Development Program.
