Commissions
BIC U.S. Commissions advise and oversee specific areas of ministry. Under the authority of Leadership Council, two commissions currently supervise BIC U.S. World Missions and Ministry and Doctrine.
Commission for World Missions
The Commission for World Missions (CWM) oversees the cross-cultural outreach of BIC U.S. CWM consists of BIC individuals with knowledge and expertise in global, cross-cultural ministry. As a commission, they are responsible for:
- Recommending cross-cultural mission posts and approving strategic plans
- Providing accountability for existing cross-cultural work
- Assessing current missiological trends and opportunities
- Exhorting the Church to support cross-cultural outreach
CWM works closely with the Director of World Missions and staff to fulfill the mission and vision of World Missions.
Commission on Ministry and Doctrine
The Commission on Ministry and Doctrine (CMD) equips and credentials BIC U.S. ministers and preserves the doctrinal integrity of the Church.
CMD consists of representatives from each Regional Conference. These members are spiritually mature, experienced in ministry, ordained by BIC U.S., and attuned to the doctrinal distinctives of the Brethren in Christ.
As a commission, they are responsible for:
- Developing and supervising a program to equip ministers for service
- Administering ministerial credentialing functions on behalf of Leadership Council
- Reviewing and addressing critical issues of doctrine and practice
CMD collaborates closely with regional bishops and the General Conference Board in all these responsibilities.
